Newton iowa speedway12/10/2023 ![]() After signing in at and being greeted at the security gate, we drove through the tunnel and around to the pit area. We arrived at the Iowa Speedway and some well placed signs pointed us to the entrance of the tunnel that leads to the pit area of the race track. While in the upper 80's, the breeze prevented my wife and our friend from over heating while standing around in the coveralls. Being in the middle of July it might not have been a good day to schedule an activity involving wearing a racing jumpsuit, a helmet and sitting in an un-air conditioned race car. The day of our event the weather was warm, sunny and slightly breezy. So after several months passed and our wedding anniversary approaching, I went online and purchased a side-by-side, ride-along for two people as a wedding gift for my wife and one of our best friends who had expressed a mild interest when we mentioned the ride-along months before. Being pretty much totally unfamiliar with NASCAR racing, it was a bit of a surprise when my wife mentioned she might like trying the ride-along. "Common" folks, non-professionals, were riding in and also driving race cars. One of the activities was the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience. There wasn't a race scheduled, but there were three activities going on at the time of our stopping by. Having never seen the Iowa Speedway, we stopped one day on a weekend while passing by on Interstate 80 as we drove by Newton, Iowa. I would also love to try these things at a road course some time! I will be doing this again someday, perhaps at a different track. I would highly recommend the added ride-a-long package before driving the track yourself to see where the racing lines are and get an appreciation of how fast the pro can get you around the track. The on track experience was phenomenal and gives you an appreciation, albeit only from a tiny taste, of what NASCAR Nationwide or Sprint Cup series is like. The staff was courteous and helpful, and was constantly looking to make the experience the best that it could be. I was definitely not disappointed and recommend this to ANYONE.Īs a fan of motor sport racing, especially the three major NASCAR touring series’, and having watched many races at Stafford Motor Speedway, I was excited to get a chance to run a stock car at the track. My father did the experience in Fontana and had a blast, so I could not wait. My wife gave me a LivingSocial voucher for the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience for my birthday. Once again the racing was great, we had a cooling breeze from the north blow directly into our faces, and you could see the entire track from your seats. Apparently one area had lots of food trucks, but I didn't see that. Thankfully the temps were 15 degrees cooler. You might feel a little uncomfortable driving to where the parking staff wants you to go as you'll have some terrain to traverse. I'm used to mostly flat areas, but Iowa has plenty of rolling hills and that's what most of the parking is. I suspect they needed double the volunteers to handle parking as people were doing their thing, not listening to the staff, and angering the parking volunteers. ![]() The Sunday race we arrived a bit closer to race time and the line of cars were long. You can see the entire track from your seats. Given the temps they needed at least 10 of them as one of my companions just never got cool as it was so crowed in there. It was terribly hot and they had one cooling center, which was a shipping container with AC. Saturday was directed to a parking spot and we tailgated until we wanted to go into the track. Had 2 races here and two days and there were some differences. We recommend it, even if you just go to watch someone else race! The whole event was a lot of fun for the whole family. He even took some close up pictures of my hubby getting into the car. And safety always came FIRST! Kudos to crew member Richard who, on his 1st day of employment, was efficient, friendly, & professional. Drivers: you MUST be flexible to climb in the window of the car so stretch & limber up & dress in loose, cool clothes-you will sweat! There are free folding chairs in the shade under a tent at the sidelines for visitors or you can climb the stairs to bleachers for a higher view. ![]() We brought along ear plugs, but didn't need them. Sunscreen, a hat, & lots of water are essential. My 2 adult daughters & my 3-yr-old grandson accompanied us to the CLT Speedway & we all had a great time!Īug 27, 2022: Prepared to stay several hours, (& it was a hot day in the 90's). He was a bit skeptical but he LOVED it! He's not a NASCAR fan, but he loves speed & has always owned fast cars. My 68-yr-old husband was gifted with the NASCAR Driving Experience for Father's Day.
